Case study

“Success is a continuing thing. It is growth and development. It is achieving one thing and using that as a stepping stone to achieve something else.”

What?

I took on a small, run down salon with just one stylist and one beautician that was taking just £2,000 per week.

Within 3 years, I had won a number of prestigious awards and proceeded to win many more awards year after year. I expanded to area management and the takings for the original salon had soared to £10,000 per week.

How?

I enhanced the quality and quantity of staff members, through investing in existing staff by providing quality, dynamic training and education. I also did very smart transitional recruitment.

This was fuelled with a focus on building a strong team identity, within a culture of integrity, confidence building, trust, belief, growth and respect.

My team were proud and loyal because they felt like part of a successful working ‘family’. I gave them a unique elixir of autonomy, direction and support. All underpinned by salaries & commissions which were above the industry standard. I demonstrated my appreciation, respect and value for them and this was willingly reciprocated from top to bottom within our team.

Within 3 years, I had built a committed, confident team of 11 people in the salon. In turn, I guided and supported them in very quickly building up their own clientele, which inevitably boosted overall takings.

I achieved this through a whole host of strategies. Daily motivational meetings and identification and strategising for areas of development, were deeply embedded in the collaborative promotion of personal investment and autonomy within ‘our’ business.

Staff & client feedback frequently reflected a culture of quality, respect, passion, empowerment and empathy.

This salon was not only financially successful. It also got the ‘job’ done to the highest of standards, within a clear and confident environment of professional expertise. This talent was underpinned by the warmest of welcomes within a happy, invested team which resulted in an enjoyable environmental experience for both staff and customers.
